Don't Forget...

Bird Tracks is a newsletter published by East Valley Wildlife. It is a quarterly publication filled with things of interest to our rehabbers and others who love wildlife. For a donation of $20 you can become a member of East Valley Wildlife and receive a one year subscription to Bird Tracks. Sample articles from previous issues of Bird Tracks can be viewed by clicking on Articles and Stories in the side bar above.

Other AZ Wildlife Rescues

East Valley Wildlife specializes in birds and small wildlife. There are many additional rescue organizations that handle other wildlife and domestic animals.  For additional wildlife rescues in the greater Phoenix area click here.

WELCOME

East Valley Wildlife is a network of volunteers in the Phoenix, Arizona area who care for animals out of their homes; we don't have a central facility.  Different volunteers take in different species or types of birds, small mammals, or waterfowl and have varying degrees of expertise.

Many people who call us about wildlife in need have an assumption that we operate like the Animal Cop shows on Animal Planet: an agency with paid staff and a 24 hour emergency crew.  In reality, most of our volunteers work rehabbing into their spare time while juggling paying jobs and family responsibilities.  While private donations are a huge help, a lot of the needed supplies come out of each rehabber's pocket.

As mentioned, different volunteers take in different species.  Baby bunnies and ducklings are pretty easy to identify but identifying baby birds will always be difficult.  Check below for a list of the most common baby birds that we handle.  By IDing the baby beforehand, we can help you get in touch with the rehabber that handles that particular species so the rescued animal will have the best chance possible.

PLEASE REMEMBER:

When getting an answering machine, you must give your phone number SLOWLY AND CLEARLY and repeat it. Do this at the beginning of the message.  This is the number one reason why people do not get a call back.  Sometimes Call Waiting will interrupt the number and repeating your number can help avoid this.  If you leave a long message and give your number too fast at the end, it's difficult to keep going back when there are 30 other messages waiting to be heard.  Giving your major cross streets is also beneficial.

You are calling a private home, not an agency.  Please be considerate of the time when calling late at night or too early in the morning.

LOOK! If you have found a baby bird, this page may help you to identify it...
